With an early departure from your hotel it is possible to venture further afield and explore some of the more distant temples which receive far less visitors than their cousins in the Angkor Park.
Beng Mealea and Koh Ker
– An early departure ( 6.30am) from your hotel will ensure that we reach the 170km distant temples of Koh Ker in good time and light. The seven-tiered pyramid like structure of Prasat Thom is by far the most prominent structure in this temple complex scattered across a large area. We will have enough time to explore this stunning and rarely visited location before having lunch locally near the temples.
In the afternoon we will set off again towards the jungle clad and atmospheric Beng Mealea. This largely unrestored temple is thought to be the blueprint for Angkor Wat. Recently built wooden platform snakes around the inner part of the temple allowing you an elevated view of the moss-clad jigsaw puzzle. We will return through pretty countryside back to Siem Reap in the late afternoon hours.
